The CW 33 of Dallas/Fort Worth recently had the opportunity to take a peek into the state-of-the-art production center at Mary Kay’s world headquarters in Dallas, Texas. The facility, which consists of a manufacturing warehouse and lab, is responsible for producing 70 percent of the Mary Kay product lines. The lab is where the cosmetic company’s skin creams, lipsticks and fragrances are created. Mary Kay Skin Care Scientist Dr. Michelle Hines provided some insight into the amount of scientific research and precautions that go into the creation of these products:
In this lab we are evaluating all the ingredients that are coming into Mary Kay’s warehouse. The science is everything in our products. It can [take] three to five years of research and development before a product hits the market and Mary Kay labs do about 300 thousand tests a year.
With machines running 24 hours a day, six days a week, and a total production of over 200 million unique products; there is little room for error. Using research and development that is rooted in science, Mary Kay can distribute its cosmetic products confidently knowing that they are safe and up to consumer standards.
