A Look at the Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR)

Personal Care Truth  /  September 21, 2011

The Cosmetic Ingredient Review (CIR) Expert Panel is an independent panel of scientists and physicians that reviews and assesses the safety of cosmetic ingredients used in the United States.  With participation from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) and the Consumer Federation of America, CIR publishes its safety assessments in the peer-reviewed International Journal of Toxicology. Its findings are also available as monographs. Each year, CIR publishes the CIR Compendium, a comprehensive collection of CIR findings.

In an interview on PersonalCareTruth.com, CIR Director F. Alan Andersen, Ph.D. explains the importance of cosmetics safety and describes CIR's approach in assessing ingredients.
